>> "REFLECTIONS" | SEPTEMBER 2005

[previous: "masquerade: till we meet again!"]

>> picture taken on: august 20, 2005

>> event: weekend with co-workers
>> place: carita beach

on a recent outbound with members of my team at work to anyer beach, i tried to finally get in touch with my artistic soul. after some long months, i finally able to grab my camera and try to get pictures i found interesting around me.

this one is my favorite from the trip. but why just feet? well.. to answer it simply.. cuz those feet don't pose. you see, the thing that i hate the most when i try to shoot an object is to find people start posing in front of the camera. and i myself, don't like posed pictures. i like it natural, candid, and just the way it is. so when i let my co-workers walked along the beach and bonded with each other, i tried to capture the closeness among them by shooting their feet. cuz right now.. i can tell whose feet those are.. cuz i know them well enough.

this is the reflections of our friendship and togetherness we've created that weekend.

>> event: road trip across USA in 10 days
>> place: new orleans

this picture was taken almost a year ago. a picture of myself among the masks at one of the stores in the streets of new orleans. this was the time when i was at the verge of my final decision of returning back home.

now, i've been here for 9 months now. gak kerasa yaa...... i'm still adjusting, but i'm getting used to everything. including, the limited time for me to sit down in front of my computer, updating my blog (which i guess.. hardly! heheeh), cuz my time is spent on the road, due to traffic jams (yeah yeah.. blame it on the traffic jam!).

but as hard as it is.. i have to say it: till we meet again...!

>> "BANDUNG, BLUE SKY AND TEH BOTOL" | APRIL-MAY 2005

>> picture taken on: april 30, 2005

>> event: visiting bandung
>> place: somewhere in bandung

though i don't have much free time in my hand to travel around these days, i try to manage to go or travel in between my busy weekends. in the beginning of the month, i went to bandung with some friends to fulfill a good faith that my friends had entrusted me to deliver. aside from that, i also came to enjoy my time, visit an old friend, finally fulfilled my promise to visit her and her family in bandung, and of course, too enjoy my time outside of jakarta.. not to mention we took the "cipularang" tol that just opened. still toll-free and it literally only took us less than 2 hours to get there. nothing surely doesn't beat that.. !

this picture above is a silhouette of a good friend of mine who was blowing a smoke next to the "teh botol" she was drinking. on a snapshot (cuz i tried to catch the moment) i focused on the blue sky, creating a dark image of her, hence becoming the silhouette. i find it rare to find blue sky in jakarta, and everytime i found one.. i'm just amazed. and not to take a picture of it would be a sin. i thought this is a cool picture of her, cuz i actually got a perfect silhouette of her profile with a blue sky background. it's just one of the memories i want to keep everytime i go to this kind of trip. and it sure is unforgettable!

>> event: visiting borneo
>> place: balikpapan port

on the first day i arrived in balikpapan, my dad took us to take a boat ride to the reservation area where the forest is located. we stayed in reservation area for a whole day and night. while waiting for the boat to be prepared for the half-hour trip, i looked around and took some pictures around the port. i felt the originality of the place, just how it was when i still lived there more than a decade ago. the smell of the salt water, the kids running around asking to be of help to the boarders.

the view of the long port where the boats are ported, may be just a regular view. but i found it really nice on my frame. the beach, yet it's not the kind of beach you would swim into, feels as if it has so much to offer out there. when we got there, it was in the middle of the afternoon and the sun brights so shiny, hence the brightness in the sky. i would love to see the sunset here again one day.

>> "DREAMLAND" | MARCH 2005

[previous: "three friends in paradise"]

>> picture taken on: january 16, 2004

>> event: trip to bali
>> place: dreamland beach

dreamland is this secluded beach on the way to uluwatu in bali. it's so secluded that there aren't that many people around and the beach is still clean. though it's not as secluded as before, it's still pretty empty. i took a friend who just visited bali for the first time when alaya took us to this place. and one thing he kept repeating over and over.. "damn, bali is so magnificent.." and coming from a friend who spent most of his time abroad, it was a comforting feeling that he realizes that our country is very beautiful, our resources are very rich, just need to be reserved. though i understand that us, indonesians, are not very much well aware of it, and the mental of the people is just want to get-rich-quick by exploiting everything to make money withouth thinking the consequences. well.. we have a long hard way to fix that.

in the meantime.. look at that beautiful view. the color gradation of the beach, the nice clear water, clean white sand beach, and beautiful sky. so very pretty.. doesn't it?

>> picture taken on: january 15, 2004

>> event: trip to bali
>> place: sunset at kuta beach

another picture of a beautiful place in our beloved country, bali. on my trip to visit bali last january, i intentionally waited for the sunset at kuta beach to take the picture of the momentum. though it was a raining season and it was kinda hard to take the picture of the clear sunset.. this'll do for now.

being in bali, looking over at the natural resources, at the breathtaking view of the beach and everything else in this area, you can help but wonder.. we are just so small in the eyes of God. i find myself amazed at the wonderful view. alaya took me places and no matter how many pictures i took, nothing beats the real thing. from the long talk on the beach under the moon, to overlooking at the most beautiful beaches in the island, the most powerful waves and the calmest beach, to the monkeys at uluwatu that took my favorite hair clip (really, what are you doing with this, you monkey!?).. it was still my best experience. thanks ya al.. sorry for the delayed upload. heheh.. !

ps: btw. the three people i took on the picture are just some strangers who happened to be on the frames.

>> "ON MAHAKAM RIVER" | JANUARY 2005

[previous: "happy holidays!"]

>> picture taken on: december 23, 2004

>> event: trip to balikpapan-tenggarong-samarinda
>> place: city of tenggarong, along mahakam river

you can say that i'm travelling professionally now, cuz almost every other week i'd be on a trip going somewhere out of town. this trip was done last december, and i had a chance to travel all the way inside the rainforest in east kalimantan and along the mahakam river. i was surprised to see the advance changes in those cities. they've changed a lot, and for the better. the cities are nice, clean, and very orderly. at least much much better than it used to.

this picture taken when we were driving along the mahakam river, in the city of tenggarong. through the advancement of the city infrastructure, i found less original houses (built on top of the river using logs) that used to fill the view along this biggest river in indonesia, the mahakam river. from the few i found, i insisted to stop and took the picture. hence, it's still a magnificent view to see.

who said our country is not beautiful?
