i was so excited to see this movie, purely for the legacy of the superhero. it's good to have him back, even if he is a bit more fragile.
though i was excited to see the movie, i kept on wondering how this movie will lay out, since we all know too well about the characters, through his strengths and weaknesses. i keep comparing it to other comic superhero-turn-to-movies like last year's
batman begins or
spiderman, or even
X-men, cuz i just thought that this movie was just not in the same superb league. the movie is still packed with action saga with exhilirating effects and dazzling production design.
but i think it was mostly due to how much we have missed seing the man in blue suit and red cape in action again, that i actually still feel entertained to see him again.
the special effects are splashy, the story has an intriguing bittersweet quality at its core and
brandon routh acquits himself nicely as a more emotionally vulnerable clark kent / superman. he is a beautiful man, and i know stepping into such an iconic role is not easy, considering that the late
christopher reeve remains for most of us the seminal
superman. but brandon did a good job taking his place, and i know christopher would agree.
kate bosworth plays as lois lane. although i thought she's a sweet talented actress, i find her lack of something in her portrayal is lois lane. too the-girl-next-door looking, perhaps? kevin spacey plays comically villainous lex luthor, who is appropriately sneering and sardonic.
the movie itself tells a plot that has always been there since ages ago. the plot of good and evil, between lex luthor and superman, with lois lane in the middle of it. but there is some bit of surprises here and there, that i find appropriate for the storyline, but all too figured-out. but i do find this movie entertaining, merely just to see the superhero is back on the screen with its coolness and made us fall in love with his heroic figure all over again.
