Working Girl yeah i know. this is an old movie. many of you may have seen it already. i know i saw it a while ago, but i don't even remember how the story goes. recently, i got a chance to watch it again *thanks to hbo's movies on demand* and it amazes me how many extras in this movie turned out to be the famous actors now.. such as kevin spacey who plays as the jackass broker, joan cusack who plays as melanie griffith's best friend, or alec baldwin as griffith's cheating boyfriend.

the story is about griffith as a determined business student who works as a secretary in wall street companies. she's a smart person and a hard-worker but she never get a chance to proove that she can work in wall street as a broker because she only goes to a night school in between her job as a secretary. wall street is tough place to compete, especially if you're a woman. and your almamater counts big time too. so after being transferred from one secretary job to another, in which she never treated nicely, she finally landed a gig for being a secretary in mergers & acquisition department under sigourney weaver. as a boss, weaver seems to be open-minded and willing to work with griffith so that she can get her break in wall street. one day, griffith showed weaver her idea of business strategy for one of the 'hot' client. weaver promised her that she would take it to her friend who knows more about this client and when the deal is through, she would credit griffith for it. and griffith was very grateful for it.

one day, weaver had a ski accident in swiss and broke her leg, so griffith had to take care of weaver's apartment, appointments, and some of her work. while cleaning up the apartment, griffith found that weaver had brought her idea to her friend as if it was weaver's idea all along. so griffith played a game and went to see 'the friend' who happens to be harrison ford. the deal was running smoothly. the client loved it and just when they about to close the deal, weaver found out. turned out weaver and ford are romantically involved, although ford had tried to break up with her. griffith was being humiliated in front of the client and told that she was just a secretary. at the same time, she found her long-time boyfriend *alec baldwin* was cheating with her friend and she lost her apartment *cuz she was living with baldwin at the time already* and she also got fired from her job because of her recent run-around pretending to be weaver to make the deal.

at the end, of course.. like any other hollywood movies.. it's a happy ending. ford dumped weaver, the client found out that it wasn't her idea all along, and griffith won 'em all.. the deal, the job and the guy. but it was a nice and entertaining movie. although the story was pretty simple, it really shows how new york city was when the market was up and actually make profits. how tough and competitive wall street is. in fact, i think it's one of griffith's movies that i found quite fun to watch .. and she's not just being a dumb blonde.
