I Liked It!

The Transporter (2002) working from a screenplay by luc besson ('the fifth element', 'the messenger', 'the professional'), director corey yuen presents "the transporter", a high-action crime drama about a young man who suddently finds himself on the wrong side of the law. british actor jason statham (the italian job, snatch) plays professional courier who's paid to simply do his job and not ask questions what he's delivering ... but he gets in trouble when he breaks that particular rule, one of his own rules.

teamed up with big name like luc besson, hongkong director corey yuen did produce better action flick.. although slightly better that his previous "kiss of the dragon." the first fifteen minutes of car chases were excellent.. in fact i liked it so much when it was done differently along with classical music on the background. the one thing that i find interesting was the the camera didn't just focus on how the car goes.. but how it was done, like the changing in the gears and the sound of the car revving. unfortunately, the action went downhill from there. while jason stratham is no jet li, he did considerably well in the martial arts scenes. multiple references to jackie chan style fighting were made, and he pulled it off without a hitch. jason has bulked up considerably since his previous guy ritchie films, although i think he probably set up his image here for his recent role in "italian job". and he provides plenty of eye-candy for the women.

shu qi, who my friend called a "hongkong soft-porn actress" did a quite admirable job for her first western movie, and was considerably less pouty & bubly than in her hongkong films. biggest drawbacks.. of course, were the plot and dialog. i know this is a european movie, but there were several spots where i laughed at the corniness of the dialog, and sometimes the dialog just doesn't make sense at all.

i gave it a three stars because, honestly, i think this could be a great movie. the combination's good, the chemistry there.. and i like the action scenes, especially the car chases. but i couldn't help it to find how corny the story is.. or even the dialog and how the story was told. overall, a decent movie, but a little more owrk on the editing and directing would have made this an action classic.
