I Really Liked It!

Pirates of the Caribbean whoaahhh.. this is a fun movie to watch. tales about pirates. a walt disney movie, produced by jerry bruckheimer, this sure is a fantasy movie with all the fun imagination come true. johnny depp plays jack sparrow *ooohh yess.. that's captain jack sparrow to you!*, a charming, carefree 17th century pirate whose domain is the treacherous but exciting caribbean sea. when a rival pirate, barbosa (geoffrey rush), pillages the coastal village of port royal and kidnaps the governor's daughter, elizabeth, jack decides to help elizabeth's love, will turner (orlando bloom), to save her. but the mission isn't quite that simple or straightforward....

the story is just like any complicated tales. it's a classic.. you might have heard them too. at least it's not that too far off. a long long time ago, there was this ship of pirates led by captain jack sparrow. the ship was called the black pearl. it was one of the most fearful pirates in the sea of the caribbean. until one day, the ship was cursed and everyone on it became immortal. they cannot die nor can they feel pain or pleasure. the curse goes on forever and they go around the sea to find the aztec gold that was the source of the curse so they can go back as the mortal living being. in the midst before the curse, captain jack sparrow was betrayed by his crew. he was marooned by the crew and his place was placed by barbosa. according to the "piracy rules" ... well it's more of just a guideline that it is a rule... when a pirate being marooned by a ship crew, he is supposed to be left in an uninhibitated island with a gun that only has a bullet in it. so jack sparrow was left there. usually, a person would survive at the most 3 days, then he would starved, thirsty and gone nuts. so the bullet would be used just to kill themselves to get out of the misery.

but jack sparrow is not just a regular person. he managed to escape the island alive and determined to get his ship back. and so he met elizabeth who was friends with will turner, who is a blacksmith. elizabeth and her dad saved will when they found him floating in the sea after a ship was destroyed by pirates. they thought that will was a survivor of the pirate attack, but only elizabeth keep the secret... the secret of the last aztec gold that was hanging around will's neck when they found him.

so how does it end? well.. then you just have to see it.. i'm not going to spoil it here. although... i really wanna comment about the movie itself and the actors in it, particularly the return of mr. johnny depp *lah emangnya kemana dia?* well, the movie is filled with cool graphics, especially when the moonlight shines through the immortal pirates that transform their bodies to skeletons to others. it's also filled with cool actors. maybe the first orlando bloom's lead role since legolas, and keira knightley proves that she'll be the next best thing after her recent breakthrough from bend it like beckham. although the movie was filled with these fantasies and tales.. i find it typical. yeah.. typical hollywood movie. i mean, there's no surprise there.

the only reason i give it 4 stars... because of the incredible jack sparrow's role played amazingly by johnny depp. he definitely steals the show in this movie. and when i say it's the return of johnny depp is because he has not been in any blockbuster movie for the longest time. well he was in from hell or sleepy hollow not that long ago, but both are not quite what you call a blockbuster movie. johnny always has his own characterization and an i-don't-care-what-you-think-but-this-is-me attitude. and it also applies to his acting in this movie. the producer was taking quite a risk putting johnny as part of the movie due to his past problems. and when he came in to the shooting place with full attire of his imagination on how he will act as jack sparrow, he surprised the movie crews. with the gold cap teeth, pirate clothes and flamboyant behavior, he obviously does not portray the stereotype of "a pirate". most of us stereotype "a pirate" with a scary look, eye patch, big body and muscular. not how the jack sparrow is pictured here.. uh-oh.. no!

but whatever it is.. it sure does work.. and by the end of the movie.. it's stuck with you that you can't help but falling in love with the character. definitely a show stealer.. !!!
