Genre: Drama

I like it!

The Crime of Padre Amaro originally from mexico, this movie was nominated for best foreign movie this year, although didn't go home with the golden statue. the story is pretty simple but it was one of the most highly talked about subject last year. the subject about the crimes of the priests, the holy man of the church. although it doesn't tell stories about the sexual scandals of the priests and boys as the headlines told us, it was told stories about a young priest who just been ordained by the church, known as padre amaro.

young amaro goes to los reyes to help father benito with the duties of the temple. there, father amaro meets and falls in love with amelia, a beautiful, sensual 16-year-old girl. being a young and unexperienced priest, amaro brought a liberal view about the celibecy life of a priest. he believes that being celibate should be optional because it denies the nature of a human. although an honest, dedicated priest, he fell for the scandal of his own just from this point of view when he finally goes on to build the unforbidden relationship with amelia.

with this unforbidden relationship, he put himself in danger of another scandals while a huge one is being unleashed when the town newspaper told the secrets behind the diocese. and his relationship with amelia would put him to the edge of being uncovered.

as i mentioned, the story is a pretty simple one but rarely discussed until what happen with the real life scandals with the priests last year. recently, i've been seeing many mexican movies and falling in love with many of them, but i couldn't really say that this was a stand out. the only thing that brought me to see this movie is its recent oscar nomination and my new favorite guy is in it.. gael garcia bernal whose movies have been popularly released like amores perros and y tu mama tambien. a pretty boy, i think the world would see more of him, he has so many talents *oh and the looks help too.. ;)* originally from spain, it surprises me that he speaks flawless english (he was a presenter in this year's academy award), good acting skills, and obviously knows how to choose good movies to be in.

anyways, enough about him.. look up for this movie nearby. although i gave it a three stars, it's worth to watch..
