>> A BRONX TALE Starring: Robert De Niro, Chazz Palminteri, Lillo Brancato tapi namanya anak kecil.. ya penasaran... apalagi semua orang² yang keluar masuk ke bar itu selalu berpakaian rapi. sampe satu hari, ketika si calogero lagi maen ama temen²nya, he saw sonny killed a man over a parking space. he was interviewed by the police and has to point who killed the guy. it is a big no-no for an italian back then to rat on a crime, especially ratting on a mafia boss. so eventhough calogero was still a little boy, he chose to say that the man who did the crime was not among the line ups. this action somehow create a respect from sonny, the mafia boss to the little boy. so he takes him to the bar, gives him money and let him does some small errands around the place. as long as his parents don't find out, calogero keeps trying to sneak out to the bar. sonny taught him to be street smart, although he doesn't want to see calogero to be a mafia or a criminal. he gives lectures that calogero should be in school, do whatever best in school, go to university. but since he comes his education from both worlds, the street and the school, he would be smarter than everybody else. in some way, sonny becomes calogero's surrogated father, while he keeps his head down and doesn't stop listening to his own father's advices. "be the best you can do.. if you don't try it, it'd be just a wasted talent... as calogero's grows up, he becomes sonny's "son", a personal friend. nobody can touch him but at the same time he was taught not to be 'over his head'. dia gak pernah sombong, tetep hangout ama temen²nya, who always get into trouble. seperti hal nya amerika di tahun 1960, especially in new york city.. marking your territory is a big deal. makanya ketika tiba² banyak orang hitam yang lewat di neighborhood mereka, temen² calogero langsung marah. they want to get respected being the 'next' mafia in the neighborhood, they stopped these black people while they're passing by and beat the hell out of them. walopun si calogero gak ikut² mukulin, temen²nya expect his participation as part of the gang. sementara si calogero ini spotted a black girl on his dad's bus. he fell in love with the girl, but she's black. sonny told him that it doesn't matter what people say, if he thinks that she's the love of his life, he should pursue it. he even told him how to test the girl out. sonny said, "when you pick her up with your car.. when you get out, lock both doors. when she was going to enter the car, you open the door and let her in. while you go around through the back of the car, stop and see if she unlocks the door for you.. if she doesn't, that means she's a selfish materialistic girl.. so dump her!" film ini bener² bagus. i love the story line, that's why i give it a 5 stars. the actors who play calogero, both when he was still a little boy and when he's already a grown up, were very good. the characters were witty and smart. although calogero's dad was an honest and good person, there were times that his character was not so likeable, and the same with sonny. although there are times that his character was very cruel and mean, other times he shows kindness beyond reason. although in this movie sonny and lorenzo aren't getting along, they both were good father to calogero. at the end, sonny took a bullet to his head from a kid whose dad was killed by sonny over that parking space. in his funeral, lorenzo came to the wake.. because he was calogero's friend. a strong story line and i love the way it portrays the bronx back in the 60s, especially in the italian neighborhood. robert de niro plays the dad and chazz palminteri plays sonny. their acting were good, but the hot spot was to lillo broncato who plays as the grown-up calogero. it's a feel-good movie. a story about father-son relationships, a true meaning of friendship, a tale about a boy, a bronx tale....

film ini dibikin taun 1993 and marks Robert De Niro's directorial debut. honestly, i only heard about this movie a loong time ago and never really took notice, until this weekend when i was hanging out at a friend's. karena belom pada nonton, akhirnya kita pasang deh dvd ini. the story is about an italian boy named calogero lorenzo who lives in the italian neighborhood up in the bronx. calogero's dad is a bus driver. an honest person and a hardworker, he doesn't give a shit what everybody thinks as long as he makes a good honest living. in the mean time, he lives in the building right next to a bar owned by sonny, who is known as the neighborhood's mafia. lorenzo insisted that his son, calogero, never to step foot in the bar. he told him that the place is no good and he will understand why when he grows older.
