so, i have an old riddle i want to share. it's a good one and thought i should post it here....

mr. johnson and his son, arthur, drove along in their car. suddenly a truck hit them and mr. johnson died instantly while arthur was knocked out with serious injuries. after the ambulance came they rushed arthur to the nearest hospital. the doctors in the hospital agreed that he needs to be operated. so they took him to the old surgeon but after one look the old surgeon said... "i can't operate him, he's my son!!!"

now, how could that be? what's the explanation?

i wonder what is it with indonesian and buying souvenirs (baca: oleh2)? untung gue jarang2 balik juga sih.. but still, it's a tradition. when you're coming back from somewhere or coming back from your vacation overseas, people expect to get souvenirs from you. why is that? why can't they just be happy to find us coming home safe and sound and happy??

well, maybe i'm just exaggerating. i'm sure they do. i'm sure all my friends don't even care if i bring them some souvenirs or not, as long as they see me back home. but back to being an indonesian (maybe even asian in general), we would feel awful to go back home empty-handed.. ya gak sih? especially now that i'm working, everybody wants a taste of what i earned. and i truly don't mind. the last time i went home, i brought enough gifts for those people who are close to me. but when i was still at school, i hardly brought stuff from here...well, not for everyone... just for my immediate family. my reason being a student, i haven't earned any money and i'm still spending my parent's dough. if i have to buy everyone a souvenir, i'd be eating nothing for a whole month.. *well, maybe not that bad... but you get the idea!*

but then, how many people can you afford to buy gifts for?? ok, just to get thing straight, i'm not complaining here.. i just find it amusing about our tradition of buying souvenirs. let's see, if you don't have that many friends, or you have many friends but you don't really keep in touch with them while you're away, you probably can get away with just buying souvenirs for your family or intermediate family. but how about if you have many friends and you keep in touch with them all the time... can you get away for not getting them anything? maybe you can, if they are your truly friends... but would you feel good about it? i bet you don't unless if you just don't really give a shit about them, period!!

i'm grateful that i have great friends back home. people who i know will be just as glad if i come back with gifts or empty-handed, as long as we can hang out again once more. i may be going crazy with my gift-searching but i think it's worth it. someone told me that i'm not leaving for another 12 days, so why getting so crazy about looking for gifts..i still have another weekend to go through before i leave?? that may be true, but the sooner the better... so i can have my peaceful and relaxing trip when i board the plane.. no last-minute shopping!!! but all and all, i'm so happy to go home.. see my parents again, my friends.. and having a relax vacation *i hope!! and yeah, i know i know.. it's still 12 days away, but i'm so excited.. i can't help it!!*

i'm so bored today. my mind couldn't focus. got headache most of the day. don't feel like doing anything at work. just sat there staring at the computer but wondering what should i do first... and then.. aduh, hari senen itu emang agak2 menyebalkan.. kasian sih sebenernya... gak ada salah apa2 tapi hampir semua orang sebel!! hehehehh.... anyways... as always, wiken tuh gue pasti jarang nge-blog. abis gue lagi sibuukk nih wiken. sampe2 gue susah banget bangun tadi pagi. ngapain aja gue?? coba kita agak2 flashback yaa...

SATURDAY
woke up early [for some reason i always wake up nice, fresh and early on the weekend, but NOT on weekdays... what's up with that?] then out of nowhere i began to prepare some food for 'brunch'. i made siomay on friday night and still had some leftovers, so warm them up and also had indonesian fried chicken complete with sambal terasi and boiled chayote for my lalapan. nendaaang deehh!! then my bro woke up, ad went straight to the fried chicken while i took a shower. then after everybody was ready, off we went to tanger outlet. got there around 2.30, walked around. got many many stuff... for myself... hueaaaahhaha.... tadinya pengen belanja oleh2 malah kok jadinya banyakan belanjaan gue yaa...??? i bought a pair of nike presto shoes, a pair of basic black slipper from nine west, bunch of t-shirts, oh... and bunch of lotion from bath & body works *and this one buat oleh2.. hihi* stayed there until 8 o'clock. *damn, that's a freakin' long time*. i couldn't even feel my legs afterwords. stopped by at western beef on the way home cuz ad wanted to make dinner. he was craving for steak...*padahal cuman pengen nyobain grill baru doang tuuhh..*

tadinya mau mampir ke tempatnya dan-dan soalnya mau ada indonesian vcd night. mas ky bawa vcd banyak banget katanya. but we all were very tired, so we went home instead. plus ad really wanted to make dinner and tasted the bad-ass kickin' buffalo wings sauce and some rub-on marinade for steak he had bought earlier at tanger outlet. had a very nice and big dinner.. the buffalo wings were really ass-kickin'...!!

SUNDAY
pengen ke pantai. tapi den males2an walopun akhirnya oke2 juga setelah he's outnumbered by the three of us [mar, ad, & me]. tadinya mau pergi jam 2, malah baru cabut jam setengah empat. nyampe di jones beach jam setengah lima-an. setelah muter2 & ngantri beli tiket masuk beach-nya, udah hampir jam 6. jadinya udah males juga, tapi udah beli tiket. keluar2 mobil ternyata anginnya dingin juga. so we were just relaxing on the beach, but didn't go to the water. selain jam 7 kita musti cabut, aernya juga rada dingin. minggu depan musti kesana lagi... earlier!!

teng jam 7 tepat kita2 pada cabut ke jones beach amphitheatre. udah pada rame. langsung masuk dan dapet seat-nya ternyata di atas. yaa, stage-nya terlihat jelas sih, cuman karena ini concertnya di pinggir pantai, dan kita duduknya di atas gituu.. yang namanya angin, duh.. kenceenggg bangeett...!! belom lagi rada2 dingin. so jadilah kita2 pada kedinginan. untung gue bawa jaket & gak terlalu kedinginan, walopun pake shorts. si mar malah kedinginan walopun udah pake jaket & celana panjang... untung ada yang jual hot chocolate walopun harganya sangat overpriced!! setelah nonton band2 pembuka yang sangat hardcore dan gak jelas lagunya kayak gimana.. akhirnya SYSTEM OF A DOWN keluar... mereka maen nonstop for an hour. sebel juga sih maennya cuman sejam (kurang malah kayaknya..!!) but then again, they only have two albums so far, and they pretty much sang all of their songs already... and... non-stop!! not even for a chat... but the performance?? AWESOME... as in capital A. bagus bangeettt!!! gue cinta banget deh ama musiknya mereka. very creative & original.

so the concert is done at 11. got back around queens at 12. stopped by at giorgia's diner for supper and got home around 1. tidur deehh... what a long day!! what a weekend..!!

for those of you in finance or invested your money in the stock market... then today is the saddest day!! dow lost 390 points, equivalent of almost 8% loss of the total market value just for the past two weeks and even went below 8000 points at some point today. damn!!

i wonder how many people will try to commit suicide over this. untung duit gue gak banyak di stock market.. and i refuse to even look at it. hey it's an investment, u don't look at it everyday.... that's my philosophy...!! just thought of the money as GONE.. and look at them every five years, hopefully it's still there.. hueahahah... no, but really, this is really baaaddd!!!

everybody at work talks about this since afternoon. the ny times reported that "...news of a government investigation at Johnson & Johnson and quickly turned into a full retreat by bruised investors... wow!! if a big company like J&J is being investigated, no wonder the stok market fell so bad today. although i have not read anything yet the reason for this investigation except that it's not about accounting issues like WORLDCOM or TYCO....

oooh... and on sunday mungkin ke siangnya mo' ke beach dulu sebelom ke jones beach amphitheatre kita mau nonton... i've been complaining about my bathroom walls and a draft on the window in the living room. well they fixed the bathroom not that long ago because there was a pipe leaked from above, but somehow after they fixed it, the leak still goes on. it created lumps of water under the paint in the walls, it's so fucken' uglyyy.... and the draft on my living room window? it's been there for a while. i never had any problem with it until now. so since i'm signing a renewal lease for another year, why not ask them to fix them all right? gets my money's worth ....

so i put all the stuff out of the way.. well dri helped me on monday night. the repair guy supposed to come in yesterday. i woke up early, left the key with the super only to know that it wasn't finished when i got home from work last night. but this morning while i was getting ready to work, i heard a knock on the door. i always get scared when i hear a knock or a bell in my door.. why? well, cuz if i don't expect anyone, i'm afraid it could be a burglar or something. i guess i'm paranoid about that. but hey, i live in new york fucken' city (well not really in the city, queens is still nyc borough.. ya gak?).... anything can happen. anyways, it was the repairman. he put all his stuff at my apartment while i'm getting ready. so i'll see a nice new walls on my bathroom and new windows in my living room when i got home, hopefully. goodiee... wait, that means i have to put all the stuff back. dammit!

gilaa rumah gue bau banget!! i feel like the smell sticks on me, my clothes, my bag.... sebel!! and it's all because i made ayam belado tadi malem. on my way home from work i was talking to my co-worker, who happens to live in the same area as i am, and she mentioned how she likes the chicken i made a while ago... she was talking about my 'ayam belado'-- chicken with chili sauce-- that i made a long time ago and brought it to work. talking about food and i was really hungry *gosh, of course!! i didn't get out of the office until late...* so by the time i got off the train i went straight to the grocery store and bought some chicken. i figured i haven't cooked that for a while either. so i did. it came out good, according to my taste bud. but the house stinks because of the frying and the chili & onion sautee. damn!! i couldn't even sleep cuz it feels like the smell keeps me awake. i hate it...

i guess that's why i hardly cook indonesian food, especially the fried stuff -- although i did invest my money on the deep fryer, it still doesn't help much. it just stink up my whole apartment. but i love to cook, so i usually cook something that's not that hard to do and won't stink up my apartment so bad.

FRIDAY
stayed at work quite late. sampe ditungguin ama boss soalnya tinggal gue doang di kantor. langsung balik. tadinya pengen ngajakin si han-han ke soho, tapi males soalnya gue kagak punya duit neehhh... so, i decided to go home, rented videos on the way... "hart's war" and "shipping news"... "hart's war" was good, colin farrel (from minority report) and bruce willis are in it. it's a war movie, but not really. good story, but i didn't stay up till the end, cuz i was so damn tired.. i fell asleep on the couch while den & dri watched it till the end.

SATURDAY
laundry time everybody!!! hehheh... already running out of my unmentionables and i had a whole lot of loads to be washed. sekalian nyuci seprei2, towels & selimut... ended up using 3 small loads & 1 big ones. mahal juga nih nge-laundry... i spent about $20, including picking up my coat from the dry cleaner. sial... but at least i got clean clothes now.... :)

after laundry, i went home. den went to play basketball while han-han picked me up. went to manhattan dengan tujuan... barnes & nobles at union square!!! hahahah... ternyata pada banyak yang pengen ikut cewek2 laennya.. so we picked up dis & nit, then chris then off to manhattan. nyari parkir for about half an hour.. (damn!! susah bow nyari parkir di union square...especially on saturday night!). sempet mampir ke diesel bentar.. eh si chris sempet2nya belanja dulu.. mumpung lagi sale, sebabnya... trus tiba2 ada sar, az, and nad-nad nongol, ngajakin ngafe.. so, sukseslah akhirnya si chris and nit ikutan ama mereka, sementara gue, han-han, and dis pergi ke barnes & noble dulu.

i got a book about pilates and a novel about FRIDA. should be interesting since i really wanna know about her life story. tadinya pengen beli buku nya haruki murakami lagi, tapi pas ngeliat FRIDA gue langsung ganti aliran. maybe next time, after i finish this one. from barnes & noble we met up with the others at cafe tinna. i had penne arabbiatta and a glass of mochaccino for dinner. eh, dinner gue belom abis, diajakin nonton ama my bro. so, buru2 makan cuz he was already waiting for me in front of the cafe... and off we go to united artist's kips bay theatre to watch "road to perdition"-nya tom hanks with bas, defits, jeff, dis, wir, den, & dri. good movie!! i recommend watching it. tom hanks proves that he is a damn good actor. soalnya his character is just totally different than other movies he's in. nothing funny came out of his month in entire movie. really!! lagian masak kaki tangan mafia bikin joke, kan gak lucu...hehehhe... he goes a long way from a comedian to a serious actor. and two oscars proved it!!

SUNDAY
bbq-an di rumah. aduh, agak2 ribet nih bikin bbq-an nya... jadi ginii....*kayak si ima*... since about a week ago, i asked dri to invite his sis/bro/cous to come over to my apt for bbq. we haven't seen them for a while. his sis always invites us for dinner at her place, so i figured since it's summer why don't i invite them for bbq at my house. make use of my patio since it's summertime. so i invited them, but friday night i found out that his cous & her beau couldn't make it so that means 2 people down. and i invited mar, han & dis. tapi dasar melayu, kalo ngundang satu tapi gak ngundang yang laen kok kayaknya gak enak gitu yaa? so i ended up inviting all of them. itu juga gak semuanya gue telpon although everyone's welcome. *so if any of you who didn't come have a slightest thought that i didn't invite you cuz i didn't call.. so sorry for the miscommunication, but i didn't call many of them either... but y'all welcome, really!*

menu: sate ayam, pancit palabok (filipino food, ad's contribution), fruit smoothies, cakes, ice cream, grilled veggies, and defit's honey chicken wings. ternyata bersisa juga tuh makanan, padahal i thought it wasn't enough.

hey that's a good motto right?? riiigghhhtt....!!! sometimes when you're so busy with work, your work is your life... dammit!! i've been really busy at work. i think that's ken's plan for me. i'm getting an assistant but more work for me. before i'm even done with the project i'm working on, he gives me another one. not that i like it. honestly, i like to keep myself busy. makes the day goes by faster. but it stresses me out too..

cuz sometimes i don't even know where to start. everybody likes to dump paperwork on my desk and there are times i can't even see the desk no more, filled with all the papers. thank God i got someone to help me now. makes a lot of difference.

came in this morning and tried to clear out some of the paperworks and i ended up cleaning up my desk and makes some spaces. it's spacier now... good!!

az ultah kemaren. tadinya mau dinner but then i found out i'm totally broke. abis bayar rent and bunch of bills, maklum laahhh, awal bulan..!! plus nobody called anyways. kemaren malemnya sih anak2 pada nyamperin ke rumahnya dia, but i couldn't make it. it's too late, jam 12 bow... gila aja... mau nyampe rumah jam brapa gue entar?? telat lagi yang ada ke kantor.. hihihi... *jangan2 emang telat mulu...heheh.. *

mom called last nite. she was just asking me about my passport and then told her that us embassy in jakarta has new policy for H1-B and F1 visa renewal. they have a walk-in window, everyday from 1-2pm, so i don't have to bother about making appointment to renew my visa entar. bagus deh!! then mom ended up talking about her sickness. apparently she found out that she has gould (bener gak nih spellingnya?? asam urat kalo bahasa indonesianya). she already got the symptoms a while back when one time she couldn't move her hands. but she thought it was because of something else. she got headaches continually but she thought it had something to do with her monopause... turned out it was from asam urat. banyak banget pantangannya. tahu tempe juga gak boleh makan, even veggies like broccoli, spinach, etc.. whichever that has high calcium and iron in it. kasian deh!! i told her i'm gonna show her how to make healthy food when i get there (sedaaappp....heheh..).

well, not that i'm an expert on it, it's just that all the while i've been living in US, i got to know how to create food from other countries and came up with my own recipe of healthy food. and also i realized how indonesian foods are very rich. we tend to use a lot of oil, a lot of coconut milk, peanuts and all that fatty stuff. she said now she makes 'cap cay' if she wants some veggies in her diet. but i told her that she can have more than that, like some salad with balsamic vinagerette, cuz it's fresh, no cooking necessary, so all the vitamins are still there, and it's sooo easy to make. that's what i meant by showing her how to eat healthy. hihi... jangan salah, my mom is the best cook i know. i wish i could have half of her skills. she can make all the food taste sooo good.. but as i said, indonesian foods are very rich!!! although.. i gotta admit, i eat 'em all the time... but it's a different case when you get older, i guess.

kayak nyokap cerita kalo dia kan seneng banget makan soto. and since she never asks for jeroan, just the meat, so she thought it'd be okay (jeroan is the stuff inside the cow's stomach...sounds yuckk right?? so imagine what i can do to you). tapi jangan salah.. walopun she only eats the meat, kuahnya kan dimasak with all those jeroan... jadinya sama aja!! so now she stopped eating it too. and that's her favorite food!! poor mommy...!! :(

i always think myself as someone who's very anal, sometimes even perfectionist especially at work. i'm very attentive to details about everything and everyone, mostly about my life and my responsibilities. and i'm damn well very independent, stubborn as a rock and i remember things down to the last detail. it's kinda what my job is expected of me. you see i'm working in not-too-big but not-that-small export import company handling mostly its accounting, finance and its daily business routines such as dealing with us customs, vendors from asia, europe and all that stuff. i work directly with the owner of the company and he's just as anal as i am, especially about numbers. remembering numbers always easy for me, that's why i never really have problems doing my job.

but recently i feel like i'm forgetting a lot of stuff. i even forget about my friend's birthday *i know many people forget, but i hardly miss any of my friends' birthday, even people that i hardly hangout with i still remember their birthday. not that i want to, it just comes naturally with me* recently i sometimes forget when to pay my bill, missing a deadline on something and all that stuff. and that's so unlike me!!! is that mean i'm getting older and my memory fades off or because my mind just too occupied with something else that things like that skipped my mind? damn! couldn't be because i'm getting old, i'm not even 25 yet.. [heheh... gak bermaksud buat nyela yang udah 25... or above..*wink ke d:nial*] but on saturday i was soo upset that i actually forget about something so important. i forgot to RENEW MY PASSPORT!!! thank God my mom asked me when my passport expires cuz she wants to make an appointment with US embassy in jakarta for my visa renewal when i come there. and i'm like..."hmm.. my passport shouldn't be expired yet" but then i rushed to look and it was expired on.... MARCH 10, 2002!! goddamit.. that's like almost 4 months i'm carrying an expired passport. i was so panicked and called han. she said it should be okay and we'll go to KJRI on monday.

so i went there today!! thanks to han who knows the insider person *wink wink*, they took care of it right away. but they have to issue me a new passport and i have to pay $40. that's ok!! i'm just grateful that i found out about it NOW and not when i'm at the airport on my way back to jakarta next month! i still can't stop wondering how can i forget on stuff like this!! cuz i usually don't!!

a little flashback from the weekend.....

went to work in the morning. i don't really have to show up but i might as well since i don't have anything else to do. and it's only half day anyways! went out of the office like around 2 o'clock but stopped by at the stores in 34th street. zara was on sale, h&m too. i'm broke, but oh well.... can't resist if i see a nice top for $9... hehhe... good thing i can't find anything nice, at least not for me... so i left to macy's. i was just gonna stop by at chanel cosmetics to get my moisturizer but ended up got the whole makeover. they were having a somewhat promotion about their new 'colors' so hey, it's free and i don't have to be anywhere else, so.... let's do it.

the makeover actually came up nice. they even took a picture of me and put it on a keychain. hahaha... malu2in... but the makeup was really nice cuz i asked for a natural look except they put on a dark lipstick on me. made me look old...er!! so i took it off right after. and put on my regular lip gloss... *lipstick is not for me... i'm not that crazy about makeups anyways. i only go to chanel for the skin care which somehow make a big difference on my skin although it's so goddamn expensive....*

after the whole day at macy's, took the subway and went home. just about 15 minutes i got home, han & ari picked me up to go back to manhattan.. duh!! so we picked up defits and disty on the way and went straight to kelly & ping and met up with rika, ari's friend there. i'm sooo hungry, that whole makeover at macy's made me forget to take lunch or any meal the whole day. so as we ate... i saw there's a guy with familiar face went in. he was wearing a black shirt and a cap with a girl on his arm. then i realized... it's... JOAQUIN PHOENIX!! all of us were like.. "hey, that's..." but we can't really say anything cuz he was standing next to our table. so when the hostess sat them on their table, we got so rowdy... defits was so nervous cuz she wants to get his autograph. too bad i didn't bring my camera. cuz autograph made no use for me, i'd rather have the picture. so after our dinner, defits stopped by at his table (got ignored at first... hehehhe) and asked for his autograph while all of us waited outside and watched through the window. defits got so pissed we didn't even stay behind her.... hey, we gave you enough support!! hahahah...

then we strolled along around downtown.. went to see the rest of the crew at 'SEA' restaurant, then went to remedy until a little after midnight, after we said happy bday to dian. everybody thought we're having girls night out since it was 6 of us, all girls hangin' out all day... ha!! it's been a while we did that. i miss my 'silit' girls!!

i was gonna go to the beach but the weather is not as hot as yesterday. so stayed home. han called and asked to go to soho, but didn't feel like going out. but then had an idea to make a little bbq at my house, just for me and my bro. then mar called and she came over, lucas too! we had chicken satay.. *indonesian style... kayak abang2 sate madura di jakarta gitu deh, toobbbh abis.. thanks to our abang sate, den!* and some burgers & hot dogs with grilled veggies. it was nice. didn't go out at all. sorry teman2.. maybe next time i'll invite you all cuz the food was not enough for more than 4 people that's why we didn't even bother to call anyone. sowwyyy.....

went dim sum with mar, chris, den, & har... stayed at mar's place.. bermaen2 ama si apui, her turtle... then went to austin street to get italian ice cream. it's so damn hot outside even though i already have my tank tops and shorts but still i couldn't stand the heat. damn that heat wave!!! i feel like i'm inside the friggin' oven. so no fireworks this year. too hot. i don't want to stay outside. so me & den just rented some videos. so right now i have 6 videos at my house. gosford park. monster's ball. shallow hal. the majestic. all about my mother. and summer of sam (si den pengen nonton film ini soalnya dia penasaran ama son of sam, the psycho serial killer back in 1977 who killed people in queens area).

gosford park is good, great casting, great story, but no satisfying ending.. at least for me. monster's ball is a very intense movie, although i don't think halle berry gives a good performance there, i've seen her in better performance before. but there are a lot of nude scenes of her. the majestic... well it has a nice story, but it's too slow and you wouldn't expect jim carrey to play in such serious movie. yang laen masih belom ditonton.

[1] tax hikes on a pack of cigarette from 8 cents to $1.50 making it cost around $7/pack *dah dibahas di atas...*
[2] fines are doubled for parking violations, so now if you got a parking ticket in manhattan you have to pay a friggin' $110!!!! *mampuussshhhh....
[3] a $1 surcharge earmarked for 911 service will now be added to cellphone bills in the five boroughs *so don't be suprise when you see that extra $1 charge on your cell phone bill my friends...*
[4] new recycling rules also in effect. no more recycling for glass and plastics. they'd be thrown away along with other trash. breaking it, you'll get fine of $50.

nah, yang bener2 gue sebel banget sih ttg parking ticket itu tadi. gila banget, even before i already got so pissed if i got a parking ticket in manhattan. it's the most expensive out of the five borough, freakin' 55 bux!!! not to mention that the parking rules are always confusing, overlapping rules just to say that "you cannot park on this side from monday to saturday from 6am to 10pm". just for that sometimes they would have three different signs. very tricky. one time there was this show on tv who said that it needs a special education just to understand those parking rules in manhattan. and getting a parking ticket... it's kinda like a normal thing!! but now for 110 bux?? i don't think so!! no more bringing the car to manhattan deh... gila banget!! *geleng2 kepala* i always agree that you don't need to have a car if you live in new york city, all the five boroughs. unfortunately in my case, my bro needs a car to go to his school, so i'm keeping mine. but it's so damn expensive. makin bokek aja nih gue. belom insurance-nya gila2an. duh!!!
